How much is my stamp worth?
It depends on four things: which issue it is, its condition, how many survive, and how many people want one. A common mid-century commemorative printed in the millions is usually worth a few cents. An early issue, a printing error, or a scarce cancellation can reach hundreds or thousands. StampWorth identifies the issue first, then gives a value range drawn from recent sale prices and catalogue listings for that exact stamp in that condition.
How do I identify an old stamp?
Collectors work from the country name, the year, the face value, the design, and physical details like perforation count and watermark. That takes a catalogue and practice. StampWorth does it from a photo: point your camera at the stamp and it returns the issue, country, year and its numbers in the major catalogues, along with how confident the match is.
Are old stamps worth anything?
Age alone does not create value — survival rate and demand do. Stamps from the early 1900s were often printed in enormous quantities and saved by the sheet, so many are worth very little despite being a century old. The valuable ones tend to be early issues, short print runs, errors, or ordinary stamps that happen to have survived in unusually good condition.
What makes one stamp worth more than another?
Condition does most of the work. Full margins, even centring, original gum on unused stamps, and a light rather than heavy cancel can multiply the price of the same issue several times over. After that comes rarity, then collector demand, which shifts by country — a stamp that is sought after in Germany may be quiet in the United States.
